The fake certificates scandal at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Mirpurkhas has intensified after a school in Naukot claimed that hundreds of fake academic documents were issued in its name.
Ahsanullah Bhatti, owner of Thar Higher Secondary School, Naukot, told the media in Mirpurkhas that 463 fake certificates were issued under the school’s name between 2021 and 2025.
According to him, the documents include 375 intermediate certificates and 88 matriculation certificates.
Bhatti said the school has no record of the roll numbers linked to these certificates. “These documents were issued without any record in our institution,” he said, adding that the issue has damaged the school’s reputation.
The claim comes after BISE Mirpurkhas Chairman Col (R) Dr Syed Muhammad Alamdar Raza revealed that 2,539 fake certificates were issued by the board during the same period. The board also released a list of roll numbers associated with the fraudulent documents.
Bhatti said he first discovered two suspicious certificates last year and reported the matter to the board’s then controller of examinations, Anwar Aleem Khanzada, but no action was taken.
He added that the board allegedly issued mark sheets, pakka certificates, and migration certificates using the school’s name and offered full cooperation to authorities investigating the case.
The scandal came to light after Mirpurkhas police arrested a secret branch staff member, Azam Khan, on March 16. Police also suspended several officials, including former controller Anwar Aleem Khanzada, as part of the investigation.
During questioning, Khan allegedly confessed that officials charged between Rs50,000 and Rs500,000 to issue fake academic records, inflate marks, and provide official certificates.
Khanzada, the son of MQM-P MNA Abdul Aleem Khanzada, remains at the centre of the controversy after he was suspended from his position on March 9.
Authorities have launched a probe into the alleged corruption within the education board as the fake certificates scandal continues to unfold.
