Detailed Report
Microsoft has announced new pricing changes for its Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Two of the four available plans will now cost less, but both will lose immediate access to new Call of Duty titles.
The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan will now cost $22.99, down from $29.99. Under the updated structure, subscribers will no longer receive new Call of Duty games at launch. Instead, future titles will be added during the following holiday season, roughly one year later. Existing Call of Duty games will remain available in the service.
Microsoft is also lowering the price of PC Game Pass. The plan will now cost $13.99 instead of $16.49.
The same Call of Duty change applies here, meaning new entries in the series will not be available at launch and will arrive later during the next holiday season.
The Essential and Premium Game Pass plans will keep their current pricing and benefits.
Microsoft previously changed Xbox Game Pass pricing in October last year. At that time, the Ultimate plan increased by 50 percent, while PC Game Pass rose by 37.5 percent. The lower two plans did not increase in price, but their game libraries were reduced. Microsoft had added benefits such as Ubisoft+ Classics and Fortnite Crew as part of those changes.
Even after the latest reductions, pricing remains above earlier levels. Before the October increase, Ultimate cost $19.99 and PC Game Pass cost $11.99.
The latest changes also reduce the value for users who subscribed mainly for day-one access to new Call of Duty releases.
For users already considering the higher-tier plans, the revised pricing makes both options cheaper than they were in recent days.
