The Last of Us Part III Development Reportedly Underway at Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog has three major titles in active development. According to recent reports, The Last of Us Part III is finally underway. The studio has shifted away from unveiling games too early, but details about its pipeline have surfaced.

Trusted insider Alir recently revealed the studio’s current lineup. Leakers DanielRPK and Pirat_Nation corroborated this information. Naughty Dog is currently working on three distinct projects.

Trusted insider (Alir) says the studio currently has three projects in active development:

First, the studio is developing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This announced new IP lacks an exact release date. However, industry insiders estimate a 2027 arrival following its 2024 reveal.

Third, The Last of Us Part III serves as the final project in this active pipeline.

Neil Druckmann will reportedly helm The Last of Us Part III. He previously wrote and directed every video game installment in the franchise.

Consequently, Druckmann stepped away from his co-showrunner role on HBO’s The Last of Us last year. The television show is currently filming its third season. However, Naughty Dog’s game output remains Druckmann’s top priority.

Druckmann has openly discussed this potential project. In the “Grounded II: The Making of The Last of Us Part II” documentary, he confirmed finding a compelling concept. He stated this concept has a throughline for all three games. He added:

Additionally, Druckmann recently shared early concept art of Joel and Ellie. His caption expressed gratitude for the journey and mentioned “the few stops that remain on the road ahead”. Consequently, many view this as a soft launch for the game’s existence.

The Last of Us Part III sits third in the current pipeline. Therefore, the game will launch after Intergalactic and the new Uncharted project.

Because of this specific order, players face a significant wait. Reports indicate a late-PS5 or early-PS6 release window for the highly anticipated sequel.
