Detailed Report
Police have uncovered a suspected network involved in the illegal buying and selling of newborn babies following a raid on a private clinic in the suburban locality of Sheikham near Sarai Mughal.
Acting on a tip-off, police from Saddar Sarai Mughal raided the clinic, where they collected key evidence and registered a case against those allegedly involved. The discovery has raised serious concerns among local residents about the existence of such inhumane practices in the area.
According to police, the clinic had been operating illegally for nearly a year. Staff at the facility were reportedly posing as qualified doctors and nurses and handling delivery cases, particularly involving unmarried women. Initial investigations suggest that newborn babies delivered at the clinic were secretly sold.
The First Information Report (FIR) states that after the birth of a child to an unmarried woman, the accused, identified as Rabia, Waqas, and Waris, allegedly sold the newborn for Rs. 48,000 to Zafar Iqbal and Shamim Bibi.
Police also reported that an unidentified driver was involved in the transaction, and efforts are ongoing to locate him.
Station House Officer (SHO) Amir Aslam confirmed that a case has been registered and investigations are ongoing. During the raids, three suspects, including a woman, were arrested. The arrested individuals were identified as Sarwar, Zafar Iqbal, and Rabia.
Authorities are continuing raids to apprehend other suspects believed to be involved in the network. The SHO noted that the clinic had been operating in the area for about a year, raising concerns that the illegal trade of newborns may have been ongoing for an extended period.
Following the raid, teams from the Health Department in Pattoki arrived at the site. Deputy District Health Officer Dr. Shahzaib ordered the immediate sealing of the clinic.
Authorities confirmed that the case has been forwarded to the Drug Court for further legal proceedings.
