Detailed Report
Authorities have announced strict measures to prevent exam paper leaks, warning that offenders could face up to three years in prison and heavy fines.
According to sources, leaking examination question papers has now been declared a punishable offence, while anyone uploading exam papers on social media during examinations will face legal action and a registered case.
Officials said individuals found responsible for releasing papers before the scheduled exam time could face three years of imprisonment along with financial penalties.
To ensure transparency, authorities will monitor examination centres through CCTV cameras, while the use of mobile phones and electronic devices will be strictly banned inside exam halls.
Security agencies and police will also assist in monitoring examination centres to ensure strict compliance with rules. Authorities said immediate legal action will be taken against anyone violating the regulations.
The measures come as the education department strengthens security arrangements for the upcoming Matriculation Examinations, which will begin on March 27.
Officials said around 275,000 students will appear in the exams this year. Authorities have also warned that members of cheating gangs (booti mafia) caught at examination centres will be arrested on the spot and charged under the law.
Teachers found assisting students in cheating may face action under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act (PEDA), including a fine of up to Rs50,000 and a ban from future examination duties.
Authorities also announced the imposition of Section 144 around exam centres, banning gatherings and restricting entry. Only exam staff and students carrying roll number slips will be allowed inside the centres, while unrelated individuals will be strictly prohibited from entering.
