Detailed Report
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has marked 14 districts as “highly sensitive” and another 10 as “sensitive” ahead of Eid ul Fitr, as authorities move to pre-empt potential security threats during the holiday rush, official sources said.
Following the classification, law enforcement and emergency response agencies across the province have been put on alert.
Sources said leaves for personnel in departments such as police and Rescue 1122 have been cancelled, while special duty rosters have been issued to ensure a stronger presence in key areas through Chand Raat and the Eid holidays.
Officials said security will be further tightened on Chand Raat, with additional deployments planned in districts deemed vulnerable to keep markets, mosques and other crowded locations under close watch and maintain law and order.
Hospitals have also been asked to prepare for contingencies. Sources said health facilities have been instructed to remain ready for emergencies, with leave restricted for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff. Authorities have also directed that medicines and essential medical supplies be kept available.
In Charsadda, one of the districts reviewing Eid arrangements, senior police officials assessed the law and order situation and finalize the operational plan for the festive period. The session was chaired by District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Waqas Khan and attended by senior officers from various subdivisions.
According to sources, the meeting focused on security around mosques, bazaars and other sensitive points as Eid shopping picks up.
The DPO instructed officers to adopt a strict approach against aerial firing on Chand Raat, warning of legal action against anyone found violating the ban. He also ordered tougher enforcement against one-wheeling to prevent accidents.
To manage traffic during peak shopping hours, the DPO directed the traffic police to implement special arrangements on major roads and commercial centers, adding that police personnel should support traffic wardens at critical points for their protection.
He also ordered the deployment of lady police personnel in busy bazaars to facilitate and safeguard women shoppers.
The meeting also decided to increase checks on illegal residents and strengthen surveillance of suspicious elements, while encouraging coordination with community representatives through the police liaison committee to help prevent street crime and unsafe practices such as aerial firing.
Police stations and checkposts have been instructed to remain on high alert, officials said, with separate security and traffic plans to be enforced at picnic spots and recreational areas during the Eid holidays.
Police personnel were also advised to exercise caution while travelling, particularly on motorcycles, given the prevailing security environment.
