Detailed Report
Government is moving forward with plans to build a National Bus Terminal in Sector I-11/4, aiming to improve transport facilities and reduce rush across the city. The project, spread over 31 acres, was reviewed in a high-level meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who was joined by senior officials from administration, engineering, planning, and environment departments. Participants were briefed on the proposed layout of the terminal as well as traffic management plans for the surrounding area.
According to officials, the terminal will have the capacity to accommodate more than 100 buses, making it one of the largest transport facilities in the capital. The design includes dedicated bus bays, parking areas, commercial spaces, and petrol pumps.
Additional facilities such as service stations, a taxi stand, and a maintenance workshop are also part of the plan to ensure smooth operations and better services for passengers.
The project is expected to be linked with the planned 11th Avenue, a move that could significantly improve accessibility and traffic flow in nearby sectors. Officials believe this connection will help ease pressure on existing roads and streamline movement in and out of the city.
During the meeting, Randhawa emphasized the need for a high-quality and modern design. He directed that an open architectural competition be held to refine the project, allowing professionals to contribute ideas for a more efficient and visually appealing facility.
He also instructed departments to speed up the hiring of consultants and to prepare a clear financial and operational model for the terminal’s construction and management.
