Detailed Report
Employees of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) have announced a protest over the non-payment of the Eid allowance promised under an agreement.
According to the CDA Workers Union (CBA), the allowance has been paid to employees on religious festivals since 2006 under a formal agreement approved by the CDA Board.
Union General Secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen stated that the allowance for this year had already been approved in accordance with the board’s decision and the mutual agreement, and an official notification had also been issued. However, the implementation was later halted, causing serious concern and anger among CDA employees.
The union strongly condemned the move, saying the Eid allowance is the legitimate right of all employees and was approved in 2006 through a board decision following a demand by the workers’ union. Since then, the allowance has been paid to all employees without discrimination on the occasion of their religious festivals.
The union further said that issuing a notification and then halting its implementation is a violation of both the agreement and the law, and has affected the festive celebrations of employees.
The CDA Workers Union has called for a protest on March 17 (today) at 10:00 AM in front of the CDA Chairman’s office in Islamabad. Central office-bearers, CBA committee representatives, members, and a large number of employees are expected to participate.
The union appealed to the Government of Pakistan, the Interior Ministry, the CDA Chairman, and other relevant authorities to immediately release the Eid allowance in accordance with the agreement to maintain industrial peace in the federal capital and ensure that thousands of employees can celebrate Eid without hardship.
