Authorities in Islamabad are planning to establish a National Bus Terminal on approximately 31 acres of land in Sector I-11/4. The proposal was reviewed during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Senior officials including Member Administration and Estate Talat Mehmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Planning and Design Dr Khalid Hafiz, and Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch attended the meeting.
Officials briefed participants on the proposed site plan and traffic management arrangements for the terminal planned in Sector I-11/4. According to the briefing, the facility will have the capacity to accommodate more than 100 buses.
The terminal is expected to include bus bays, designated parking spaces for buses, commercial areas and petrol pumps. Plans also include service stations, a taxi stand and a maintenance workshop to support transport operations and facilitate passengers.
Officials further informed the meeting that the terminal is expected to be connected with the planned 11th Avenue, which would improve traffic flow and accessibility in the surrounding areas.
During the meeting, Randhawa directed authorities to prepare a high-quality design for the project and said an open architectural competition should be organised to refine the proposed design.
He also instructed relevant departments to expedite the hiring of consultants and to develop a financial and operational model for the construction and future management of the terminal.
