Detailed Report
The Pakistan Navy escorted two oil tankers from the Port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates to Karachi, where the vessels arrived safely, officials confirmed on Friday.
Officials from the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) said the ships were carrying 100 million to 120 million liters of oil, an arrival that comes as concerns grow over potential fuel shortages globally and in Pakistan.
The two vessels reached Karachi under the protection and escort of the Pakistan Navy following recent attacks on vessels in the region that have raised security concerns for maritime trade routes.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar thanked the Pakistan Navy for ensuring the safe transfer of the ships. He said the government has requested the Foreign Office to contact Iran to help secure the release of two other vessels currently stuck in the Persian Gulf.
The development comes as the Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr to safeguard national shipping and maritime trade amid rising regional security threats and potential disruptions to critical sea lanes.
The operation aims to ensure the uninterrupted flow of national energy supplies and the protection of Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs).
Officials from the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation said the oil shipment is extremely important for the country’s domestic needs and that its timely arrival will help support stability in Pakistan’s energy sector.
