Gulf Countries Extend Visas and Waive Fines for Travelers Stranded by Airspace Closures

Several Gulf countries have introduced temporary relief measures for travelers stranded due to widespread airspace closures across the Middle East.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar have announced visa extensions and waived fines for visitors and residents unable to travel because of flight disruptions.

Officials said the steps aim to support people whose travel plans were affected by circumstances beyond their control.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security in the UAE said tourists and certain residents who cannot leave the country due to cancelled or delayed flights will not face fines for overstaying.

Authorities in Kuwait announced that all visit and entry visas will be automatically extended for one month starting February 28, 2026.

Residents who are currently outside Kuwait and have overstayed will receive an automatic three-month absence permit. Officials said the process will be handled entirely online, eliminating the need for in-person visits.

The government has also waived all fines and fees, while additional extensions may be considered depending on the evolving situation. Residents were advised to check updates through official channels and digital services such as the Sahel.

Meanwhile, Qatar announced that all visas, regardless of type, expiring or already expired will receive a one-month automatic extension starting February 28, 2026.

Authorities said the extension will be processed electronically with no application required, and fees will be waived. However, individuals with previous visa violations must first clear any outstanding fines.

Officials also urged residents and visitors to stay indoors and follow safety instructions as regional tensions continue.

Governments across the Gulf said the measures are part of broader efforts to assist travelers and residents affected by airspace closures and ongoing regional tensions, ensuring that people are not penalized for circumstances beyond their control.
