Detailed Report
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) plans to launch the first phase of a blockchain-based degree attestation system by June 2026 in an effort to make the attestation process more secure and accessible online.
According to documents, the new system is being developed to improve transparency, efficiency and service delivery in the attestation and equivalence processes handled by the commission.
The proposed framework will use blockchain technology to connect academic records of universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on a centralized digital platform. The system is intended to streamline verification procedures and reduce the need for applicants to visit universities physically for document authentication.
Under the system, universities and HEIs will have dedicated dashboards through which they can verify and validate applicants’ academic records. Once the verification process is completed at the university level, the case will automatically be forwarded to HEC for further processing.
After HEC completes verification and attestation, the academic records will be stored as secure digital credentials on the blockchain. Students will be able to access these credentials online and share them with employers, institutions or other relevant authorities for verification when required.
Officials say the blockchain-based system is expected to help reduce document forgery, fraud and delays in verification while ensuring the integrity and security of academic records. HEC expects the first phase of the system to be launched by June 30, 2026, as part of efforts to digitize and strengthen the country’s higher education credential management system.
