Govt Approves MVNO Framework to Bring New Mobile Operators to Pakistan

IT Minister Shaza Fatima has announced that the government plans to prioritize the introduction of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) following the recent developments in the telecom sector.

Authorities have approved the MVNO framework, paving the way for smaller mobile service providers to enter the market.

MVNOs operate by leasing spectrum and network capacity from major telecom operators instead of building their own infrastructure. The government has already held discussions with companies regarding potential investment in MVNO operations.

Officials also said that work is underway on a plan aimed at improving fiberization to strengthen the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.

This development could increase competition in Pakistan’s telecom market by allowing smaller Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) to offer services using the networks of major telecom companies. It may lead to more service options and potentially lower prices for consumers.

At the same time, the government’s focus on fiberization could improve network capacity and internet quality, which is important for supporting faster mobile broadband and future 5G services.
