Detailed Report
Pakistan has activated an indigenous automated web monitoring system to strengthen the security of government websites and online applications amid rising cyber threats to the country’s digital infrastructure.
According to an official document, cybersecurity risks targeting Pakistan’s government web infrastructure have intensified, prompting authorities to deploy the locally developed system under the CERT Directorate. The platform has been introduced to improve protection against increasing cyber threats directed at official online services across the country.
The monitoring system enables continuous cybersecurity surveillance of more than 1,500 government websites and applications in Pakistan. The document states that the advanced platform can identify cyberattacks in real time, allowing authorities to respond immediately to potential threats before they cause significant damage to critical digital infrastructure.
The system is capable of instantly detecting risks such as website defacement, script injection, and data leaks. Early detection allows cybersecurity teams to take rapid action to prevent large-scale attacks on government web services and ensure uninterrupted public access to official platforms.
The document further states that automated alerts are issued to relevant departments as soon as any cyber threat is detected. This mechanism ensures that concerned institutions receive timely warnings and can respond quickly, reducing the chances of sensitive data exposure or service disruption.
In total, 1,527 government and important websites are currently under continuous monitoring through the system. These include 407 federal government websites, 209 from Punjab, 282 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 174 from Sindh, 108 from Balochistan, 51 from Gilgit-Baltistan, and 133 from Azad Kashmir.
According to the document, the cybersecurity monitoring platform also includes 119 private sector websites and 44 banking sector platforms to further strengthen national digital security.
