Detailed Report
Suno TV, a news channel backed by a major real estate group, has reportedly terminated around 170 employees with immediate effect, with affected workers also claiming they have not been paid their April salaries.
The reported layoffs have sparked concern in media circles due to both their scale and the profile of the channel’s backers.
Suno TV was launched by Blue Group of Companies, which is owned by Saad Nazir, the chairman of the Blue World City housing project in Islamabad.
According to reports, the dismissals affected employees across multiple departments, including editorial, technical, and support staff.
The Islamabad bureau was among the worst-hit units, with six reporters, four cameramen, and a senior copy editor reportedly losing their jobs.
The cuts also allegedly affected at least 10 employees from the technical department, along with drivers, reception staff, makeup artists, and other workers linked to day-to-day operations.
In addition to the layoffs, reports suggest several current affairs programs have also been taken off air, pointing to a wider internal shake-up at the channel.
So far, there has been no detailed official explanation addressing the reported layoffs, the status of unpaid April salaries, or the cancellation of programs.
