Detailed Report
Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior has rejected reports circulating in sections of the media and on social media regarding alleged targeted deportations of Pakistani nationals from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), calling the claims “malafide” and part of a “vicious propaganda campaign.”
In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said it had reviewed the available details and data and found no evidence of any country or sect specific deportation campaign being carried out by the UAE.
“The Ministry of Interior has taken notice of speculative reporting in sections of media especially social media about targeted deportations of Pakistani nationals from brotherly Islamic country of UAE,” the statement said.
The ministry clarified that deportations, if any, were part of routine procedures under the host country’s laws and regulations, including cases related to visa violations, illegal documentation, or overstays.
It added that Pakistani citizens who fulfill visa and employment requirements continue to travel to and obtain work visas for the UAE and other friendly countries “without prejudice.”
The statement further said that any issue involving Pakistani nationals abroad is handled on a case to case basis through established diplomatic channels by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The clarification comes amid recent media reports claiming that Pakistani nationals were being deported from the UAE. Earlier in the day, The New York Times published a report alleging that the Gulf country had launched a “large scale expulsion” of Pakistani workers.
According to the report, more than 20 Pakistani Shia workers in the UAE claimed they had been arrested, detained, and deported during the past month. The publication linked the reported actions to what it described as growing strain in ties between Pakistan and the UAE amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
