Islamabad-based institutions recorded the largest number of cases at 153. Punjab followed with 130 cases, while Sindh reported 75 and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) recorded seven cases.
The documents also showed cases involving female students. Punjab reported 28 such incidents, while institutions in the federal capital recorded 10 and Sindh reported eight. No female student cases were reported from K-P.
The report further stated that no faculty member was linked to any of the reported incidents. To address drug use and smoking in educational institutions, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has implemented a monitoring mechanism across universities.
As part of the initiative, Anti-Drug and Tobacco Committees have been formed in 245 public and private higher education institutions across the country.
HEC officials said the committees are carrying out awareness campaigns, monitoring campus activity and assisting in the enforcement of anti-drug regulations. University sub-campuses have also been instructed to establish similar bodies to strengthen coordination and oversight.
The committees have been granted authority to investigate complaints and take action related to the use, sale and distribution of drugs on campuses.
