Detailed Report
The Sindh cabinet has approved amendments to the appointment criteria for vice chancellors of universities across the province, raising the maximum age limit for candidates from 62 to 65 years.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. According to an official statement, the changes were introduced to modernize the vice chancellor appointment process and expand the pool of experienced candidates.
Under the revised criteria, candidates applying for the post of vice chancellor will now be required to have 20 years of experience instead of 15 years.
The cabinet also made it mandatory for candidates to have at least 10 publications in Higher Education Commission (HEC)-recognized journals.
The development comes after the Sindh Assembly earlier amended university laws allowing serving and retired bureaucrats to become eligible candidates for vice chancellor positions at general universities.
During the meeting, the cabinet also approved the Recruitment Rules and Service Regulations 2026 for all seven Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Sindh.
Under the new rules, appointments for positions including chairman, secretary, controller of examinations and audit officer will be made through a standardized search and selection committee process.
Officials said the age limit for the post of chairman has been fixed at 40 to 55 years, while candidates must possess a first division Master’s degree along with 15 years of senior management experience.
