Apple is Working on Three AI Photo Tools for iOS 27 Release

Apple is set to introduce iOS 27 on June 8 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. The upcoming update is expected to bring long-awaited changes to Siri. Reports suggest that the smarter assistant may finally arrive, powered by Google Gemini models. This marks a major step in Apple’s growing focus on artificial intelligence.

At the same time, Apple is also working on several AI-driven upgrades for its Photos app. According to a recent report from Bloomberg, the app will include a new section called Apple Intelligence Tools. This section will sit inside the editing interface and offer four key features: Extend, Enhance, Reframe, and Clean Up.

First, Extend will allow users to expand an image beyond its original frame. Users can stretch the edges with their fingers to add more content. This gives better control over how much area gets added and where it appears.

Next, Enhance will focus on improving images automatically. It will adjust colors, lighting, and overall image quality using AI. While the exact improvements remain unclear, the goal is to deliver better-looking photos with minimal effort.

Meanwhile, Reframe is built for spatial photos. This format supports 3D images designed for the Apple Vision Pro headset. With Reframe, users can shift the perspective even after capturing the image. This adds more flexibility when editing immersive photos.

In addition, Clean Up will remain part of the Photos app. It is currently the only AI-powered editing tool available. The feature lets users remove unwanted objects from images, and it is expected to stay in iOS 27.

However, development has not been smooth. Sources cited by Bloomberg say that Extend and Reframe faced issues during internal testing. In some cases, they did not perform reliably. As a result, Apple may delay these features or release limited versions.

Clean Up has also received mixed feedback. Some users reported visual artifacts after editing. Others noticed distorted images or incorrect details filling removed areas. These concerns highlight the challenges Apple still faces with AI tools.
