Detailed Report
A major restoration plan has been prepared to bring back the original look of historic buildings located on Lahore’s Mall Road, with owners set to bear the cost of repair and rehabilitation work.
According to sources, authorities have identified 104 buildings between PMG Chowk and Charing Cross for restoration because of their historical significance.
In the first phase, notices have been issued to the owners of 10 old buildings. The notices were accompanied by photographs showing the current deteriorated condition of the structures.
Officials have directed the owners to begin restoration work within seven days. Legal action may follow if they fail to comply within the given deadline.
The plan aims to revive the historical character of these British-era buildings, with a particular focus on restoring their original facades and creating a more uniform and visually appealing streetscape along Mall Road.
Under the project, the Walled City of Lahore Authority will provide technical support to the district administration during the restoration process.
Some of the key buildings identified under the plan include Ghulam Rasool Building, Keshu Ram Building, Shah Din Manzil, Ahmad Mansion, Zaman Plaza, Khadim Centre, Ziauddin Building, Kripa Ram Building, Dhani Mansion, and Jan Building.
Officials say the move is aimed at preserving Lahore’s historic heritage while improving the appearance of one of the city’s most iconic roads.
