PM Shehbaz Orders Investigation Against SNGPL Over Alleged Tender Violations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken formal notice of a complaint filed by Transparency International Pakistan, alleging violations of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules in tenders issued by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).

According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the complaint was brought to the PM’s attention after concerns were raised about possible irregularities in the procurement process.

The matter specifically relates to alleged breaches of PPRA regulations during the awarding of contracts.

Following the report, the prime minister directed the relevant authorities to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter without delay. He emphasized that the findings should be based on merit and evidence.

The statement added that PM Shehbaz has made it clear that if the allegations are proven during the inquiry, strict action should be taken against those found responsible.

SNGPL, one of the country’s largest gas distribution companies, has faced questions in the past over procurement procedures, though no findings have been officially confirmed in this case yet.

The current inquiry will determine whether any rules were breached in the tender process and whether corrective action is required.
