Is Insomniac’s Venom PS5 Game Canceled? The Truth Behind the Rumors

The fate of Insomniac Games’ rumored Venom spin-off game is completely up in the air. Contradictory reports are currently circulating online. Yesterday, news broke regarding the development status of the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 title, leaving fans confused.

Developer Insomniac Games released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 back in 2023. The sequel featured Peter Parker and Harry Osborn as Symbiote hosts. Shortly after the game launched, a massive ransomware attack hit the studio. Hackers leaked internal plans for a standalone Venom PS5 game. The studio supposedly scheduled the title for a 2025 release. However, Insomniac never officially confirmed its existence. Consequently, 2025 passed without a single announcement. This prolonged silence naturally sparked concern regarding the project’s status.

Recently, Miles Morales voice actor Nadji Jeter appeared on the ‘Love it Film’ podcast. He claimed that Insomniac initially worked on the Venom spin-off. Furthermore, Jeter stated the studio canceled the project following the tragic 2024 death of Venom voice actor Tony Todd. This cancellation news quickly flooded the ResetEra forums.

However, the story did not end there. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier stepped in to shut down the rumors. He firmly addressed the forum users and stated that Jeter’s cancellation claim “isn’t true”.

Early leaks suggest the Venom game will star Eddie Brock. The narrative reportedly transforms him into an anti-hero. Additionally, fans speculate that Carnage will serve as the main villain, building directly upon Cletus Kasady’s appearance in Spider-Man 2.

Right now, Insomniac remains busy finalizing Marvel’s Wolverine. That game officially launches later this year on September 15 for the PS5. Fans will likely get clarification on Venom’s fate shortly after Wolverine drops. If Insomniac prioritizes and announces Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 next, the studio either shelved the Venom project or pushed it much further down the pipeline. Either way, the Spider-Man 2 ending clearly establishes major conflicts and teases a new playable character, proving the studio is not done with the web-slinging universe just yet.
