Detailed Report
The Punjab government recently signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) with seven distinct institutions, including a notable Chinese firm. Consequently, the province will officially begin exporting livestock and meat. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz presided over a special video link meeting to finalize this agreement. Ultimately, the government aims to export one million livestock under this new pact.
To support this massive supply chain of meat and livestock export, China’s Global Meat Company will officially partner with the state-owned Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company. Together, they will install a dedicated boiler unit within the province. This unit will prepare boiled meat on a large scale for international shipment. Furthermore, partner meat companies will process the meat of 300,000 export-ready animals.
Meanwhile, the government set specific fattening targets. Farmers will fatten 300,000 buffaloes and cows, alongside 300,000 sheep and goats. Additionally, breeders will raise exactly 100,000 goats and sheep strictly for export purposes. To ensure compliance with international export targets, authorities will officially tag two million animals.
Punjab will introduce mechanization to its livestock farming sector for the very first time. Therefore, the provincial government will provide up to a 60% subsidy on modern livestock machinery.
Moreover, animal healthcare will experience massive infrastructural upgrades. The government will establish state-of-the-art veterinary hospitals in every single tehsil across the province. Plus, four mobile veterinary dispensaries will operate in each tehsil to guarantee door-to-door animal treatment.
Beyond aggressive export targets, the initiative heavily focuses on community welfare. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officially doubled the quota of free livestock allocated for rural women. Specifically, the government will distribute 9,255 animals to widowed and divorced women residing across 12 different districts in South Punjab.
