Detailed Report
Authorities in Matiari, Sindh, have confirmed that 607 government employees illegally claimed BISP funds through their spouses, officials announced on Saturday.
The District Accounts Office identified the employees across several departments, including police, revenue, irrigation, health, WAPDA, and SCARP, officials confirmed.
The fraud came to light after a directive was issued to all Accountant General offices approximately three months ago, flagging this serious departmental concern.
The letter named the departments involved, highlighted that family members of serving employees were drawing BISP funds, and demanded immediate corrective action.
Following the directive, authorities launched formal recovery proceedings and began deducting the improperly received amounts directly from employees’ monthly government salaries.
Verification was carried out using government service records cross-referenced with data from the National Database and Registration Authority, commonly known as NADRA.
In most documented cases, deductions ranged between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 per individual employee, officials confirmed after reviewing the salary recovery records.
A total of Rs 729,028 was recovered from 45 employees of the SCARP department, while Rs 252,300 was deducted from 15 Deputy Commissioner Office employees.
Rs 685,747 was recovered from 42 Irrigation Department employees, and Rs 224,325 was deducted from 14 employees working under respective Executive Engineers.
Additionally, Rs 694,980 was recovered from 17 employees of the Education Department, bringing total recoveries across all departments to hundreds of thousands of rupees.
Authorities stated that the crackdown is intended to ensure BISP assistance reaches only genuinely deserving and financially vulnerable recipients across the country.
Further investigations remain active, and officials have confirmed that more action is expected against employees found to have violated the eligibility criteria.
