Detailed Report
Sindh Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar has announced a major step toward forming the Sindh cricket team for the upcoming Pakistan Cup, introducing a merit-based selection process at the divisional level.
In a video statement, the minister said the Sindh government will conduct structured trials across all divisions to identify talented cricketers for the provincial team.
Mahar said the initiative follows significant efforts by the Sindh government to convince the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to provide a proper platform for talent recognition, calling it a major opportunity for Sindh in particular.
He confirmed that the Pakistan Cup is expected to be held at the end of May or in the first week of June.
The minister emphasized that Sindh has strong cricketing talent, but many young players do not get the chance to prove themselves. “Now we have provided them with a proper platform to showcase their abilities,” he said.
He added that although the tournament will be organized under the PCB, the Sindh government will handle the arrangements, with the goal of bringing forward as many young players as possible.
To ensure broad participation, trial camps will be set up in every division of Sindh, as part of efforts to make the process merit-based and inclusive.
Highlighting the urgency of the process, the minister said the selection must be completed quickly to build a competitive team. “Time is short. We not only have to build a strong team but also aim to win the Pakistan Cup,” he concluded.
