AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Debuts With 208MB Cache and 16 Cores

AMD (AMD) has introduced the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor, the first desktop processor to feature AMD 3D V-Cache technology on both chiplets.
The new chip is aimed at developers, creators, and gamers, combining Zen 5 architecture with dual second-generation AMD 3D V-Cache technology.
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition features 16 cores and 32 threads. It offers boost speeds of up to 5.6GHz and a base clock of 4.3GHz. The processor includes 208MB of total cache and carries a 200W thermal design power rating. AMD has priced the chip at $899.
AMD said the dual 3D V-Cache setup places second-generation stacked cache across all 16 cores.
The company said this increases cache capacity, lowers latency, and improves responsiveness for demanding workloads.
AMD previously introduced the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in 2022 as the first X3D processor, followed by the Ryzen 9 7950X3D as its first 16-core model with 3D V-Cache.
The second-generation design moves the stacked cache beneath the processor cores to help lower temperatures, improve sustained frequencies, and increase efficiency.
AMD said the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is built for complex compile times, large simulations, and memory-heavy workloads.
The company said the processor can keep more data closer to the cores, reducing memory bottlenecks and improving iteration speed.
Built on a 4nm process, the processor is also claimed to deliver average performance gains of 5 percent to 8 percent over the previous generation in creator workloads such as DaVinci Resolve and Blender, as well as source code builds including Unreal Engine and Chromium.
AMD said the processor supports a drop-in upgrade path on the AM5 platform. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition is available starting today through major retailers.
It will also be offered in systems from OEM partners, including the Alienware Area-51 Desktop.
