Polls Show Declining Support for Donald Trump Ahead of US Midterm Elections

A series of new political polls indicate declining public approval for Donald Trump, raising concerns for Republican candidates ahead of the upcoming US midterm elections.

The AP-NORC poll found that nearly 70% of Americans view the economy as poor, while 72% believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.

Approval of Trump’s handling of the economy has dropped to 30%, down from 38% in March, with only 23% supporting his approach to the rising cost of living.

The poll further revealed that 52% of respondents are less likely to support candidates who back Trump’s deportation policies.

An additional poll by NBC News showed Trump’s overall approval rating at 37%, with 63% disapproving. However, support among Republicans remains relatively strong, with over 80% still backing him.

The surveys also highlight concerns over foreign policy. Around 67% of respondents disapprove of Trump’s handling of tensions with Iran, while a majority oppose further US military involvement.

Despite declining ratings, Trump continues to receive support on certain issues, including voter identification policies. Polls show that a majority of Americans favour stricter voter ID and citizenship verification requirements.

With the economy emerging as the top concern for voters, analysts say the shifting public sentiment could significantly impact Republican prospects in the upcoming elections.
