Detailed Report
The annual Tableeghi Ijtema in Islamabad has been postponed by a week amid uncertainty in the capital, which is expected to host a second round of peace talks between Iran and the United States.
Organizers said the event, originally scheduled from April 24 to April 26, has been rescheduled after consultations with the Raiwind leadership. The new dates have been set from April 24 to May 1. Mufti Mohammad Waqas Rafi, organizer of the Ijtema, said the decision was taken after reviewing the situation and to facilitate the government.
He said the event could be further postponed or canceled if the situation remains unchanged, adding that organizers are in contact with the district administration regarding security arrangements.
Officials from the capital police and administration said uncertainty in Islamabad is likely to continue until there is clarity on whether the talks will be held.
The gathering typically attracts between 250,000 and 300,000 participants from across the country and has been held in the capital for more than two decades, according to the organizers.
