A Karachi resident was abducted near the city’s airport and forced to transfer $8,600 from his digital account in a robbery that has raised fresh concerns over crimes involving digital assets.
According to the victim’s father, his son had left home on Wednesday night to travel to Lahore. During the ride, the online taxi driver stopped at a petrol pump, where four armed men in a double-cabin vehicle intercepted them.
The suspects forcibly took the victim into their vehicle at gunpoint and drove him around for more than an hour. During this time, they accessed his digital account and transferred $8,600.
The attackers also took away his mobile phone, laptop, and other belongings before subjecting him to physical violence.
After the assault, the suspects abandoned the victim in the Korangi area and fled the scene. The victim’s father said that despite the severity of the incident, the airport police station has not yet registered their complaint.
