Punjab Makes Online Attendance Mandatory in Government Schools

The Education Department of Punjab has made online attendance compulsory for both students and teachers in all government schools across the province.

According to official directives, any student or teacher who fails to mark attendance through the digital system will be considered absent.

Sources said strict disciplinary action will be taken against schools that fail to update attendance data on the School Information System. All Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of education districts have been instructed to ensure 100% compliance in data entry.

The education secretary has also expressed concern over delays in uploading student admissions and attendance records, emphasizing that complete and accurate data must be maintained on the system.

Authorities have set April 20, 2026, as the final deadline for updating all required records. Officials warned that submission of incomplete or incorrect information will result in action under the Punjab Employees Efficiency Discipline and Accountability Act.

Monitoring teams will conduct surprise visits to schools, and head teachers will be held responsible for any discrepancies found during inspections.

The initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and digital record-keeping in the public education system of Punjab.
