Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Aamir Khattak reviewed the ongoing Raja Bazaar beautification and construction project, emphasizing timely completion ahead of the May 30 deadline.
During his visit to the project site, he assessed the pace, quality, and safety arrangements of the work and stressed that progress must remain consistent to meet the set timeline.
He said Raja Bazaar reflects the city’s historical and commercial identity, and directed that the project should combine modern urban standards with the preservation of local culture and historical aesthetics.
The commissioner noted that regular site visits are being conducted to ensure both quality and speed through continuous monitoring. He also instructed officials to use high-quality materials in all construction activities.
Highlighting public convenience, he directed authorities to arrange alternative pathways for pedestrians and shopkeepers during construction and to minimize disruption to business operations.
On safety, Khattak ordered mandatory use of safety gear, including helmets and jackets, for all workers. He also called for proper signboards, barriers, and adequate lighting at night to prevent accidents.
He said the project will play a key role in transforming Raja Bazaar into a safe, organized, and visually improved commercial center for both the public and the trader community.
Officials informed him that utility lines, including those of IESCO, WASA, Sui Gas, and PTCL, are being shifted underground as part of the project.
According to the latest update, civil beautification work has reached 29 percent completion. IESCO line shifting is 92 percent complete, while Sui Gas stands at 97 percent, PTCL at 95 percent, and WASA at 95 percent.
The project includes construction of arch walls, building facades, installation of tuff tiles, benches, streetlights, Victorian lights, dustbins, planters, and decorative entrance features.
