Detailed Report
The national average price of LPG has surged to between Rs. 3,900 and Rs. 5,135 per 11.67 kg cylinder, up from Rs. 3,150 to Rs. 3,968, driven by supply disruptions and rising global prices.
Data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics shows that prices increased sharply during the week ending March 26, with the largest spikes recorded in cities across Punjab.
The increase has already pushed up fares for LPG powered transport, adding pressure on low and middle income groups who rely on rickshaws, buses, and minibuses.
Industry officials say global market trends have played a key role, as LPG prices rose following the Middle East conflict, while supplies from Iran have slowed due to Eid and Nauroz holidays.
According to the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, around 20,000 tonnes of LPG arrived in Pakistan during March through three vessels, while current stock levels are estimated to last 13 to 14 days.
Pakistan’s total annual LPG demand stands at around 2 million tonnes, with 1.2 million tonnes imported and 800,000 tonnes produced locally, while the import bill declined 4 percent to $696 million during the first eight months of the fiscal year.
