Detailed Report
The Sindh government has decided to impose a smart lockdown across the province to help conserve petrol amid rising fuel prices.
Sindh government spokesperson Diwan Sukhdev Asardas said this smart lockdown will be different from the coronavirus lockdowns seen in the past.
According to the spokesperson, the purpose of the move is not to limit social interaction, but to reduce fuel consumption. He said that after global oil prices increased due to ongoing tensions in Iran and other regions, it became necessary to protect the country’s fuel reserves.
He said that under the smart lockdown, schools, colleges, and universities may hold online classes. A work-from-home policy for both public and private offices is also under consideration.
In addition, steps will be taken to reduce traffic on the roads so that petrol use can be lowered.
The spokesperson said hospitals, police, and public transport will be exempt from the lockdown, and there will be no disruption in the supply of basic public services.
He added that an official notification is expected within the next 24 to 48 hours. The notification will clarify which sectors will face restrictions.
