Detailed Report
Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC) has announced a new gas discovery at the Sahito 1 exploratory well located in the Khairpur district of Sindh.
The discovery was made in the Khewari Exploration License area, where OGDC operates with a 95 percent stake alongside Government Holdings Private Limited holding a 5 percent carried interest.
According to the company, testing of the Lower Goru Formation yielded gas flows of 17.2 million standard cubic feet per day, indicating strong production potential from the well.
The Sahito-1 well was spudded in December 2025 and drilled to a depth of 3870 meters using OGDC’s in-house expertise, as part of ongoing exploration efforts in the region.
The discovery is expected to contribute toward reducing Pakistan’s energy demand and supply gap by adding indigenous gas resources. It is also likely to enhance the hydrocarbon reserves of OGDC and its joint venture partner.
The company described the development as a key milestone for both the organization and the country’s broader energy security strategy, as Pakistan continues to seek local resource development to reduce reliance on imports.
