Detailed Report
A Pakistani expatriate in Oman has been praised for rescuing two Indian nationals after their car was swept away in floodwaters near Barka, in an incident captured on video and widely shared online.
The rescue occurred on Sunday afternoon as heavy rains triggered by a low-pressure system lashed parts of Oman, leaving at least 10 people dead and prompting multiple rescue operations as wadis overflowed and flooded nearby areas.
The rescuer was identified as 25-year-old Shahzad Khan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who is currently working in Barka.
According to Khan, a large crowd had gathered near the flooded wadi when a car attempting to cross was caught in the current, with people watching as the situation unfolded. He said he saw passengers inside the vehicle calling for help and rushed toward the car despite the strong flow of water.
Video footage shows Khan climbing onto the partially submerged vehicle and attempting to break the windows. After initial attempts failed, he used stones to shatter the glass and reach those inside.

He said the vehicle had been carried by the current before stopping near a bridge pillar, while eyewitnesses confirmed that the water flow was too dangerous for others to approach. Khan managed to pull both occupants out of the car, and people standing nearby helped bring them to safety. He said he acted instinctively, focusing only on saving lives as the situation unfolded.
