Detailed Report
The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has announced that the long-awaited Karimabad Underpass will be opened for traffic by April 10, with final construction work expected to be completed within the next two weeks.
According to KDA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, work on the underpass is currently underway around the clock to meet the deadline. He stated that the project is in its final stages and will soon be ready for public use.
Officials revealed that the underpass stretches approximately 1.1 kilometers and construction originally began in December 2023, with an initial completion timeline of one year. However, the project has faced delays along the way.
The cost of the underpass has also seen a significant increase. Initially estimated at around Rs. 1.35 billion, the total expenditure has now surged to approximately Rs. 3.83 billion during the course of construction.
Once completed, the Karimabad Underpass is expected to ease traffic congestion in one of Karachi’s busiest areas and improve overall traffic flow for daily commuters.
