Detailed Report
The Punjab Highway Department has decided to digitize all manual toll plazas across the province in a bid to eliminate overcharging, reduce corruption, and ensure transparency in toll tax collection.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth, where officials reviewed various aspects of the proposed digitalization plan.
Senior officials, including Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf, along with other departmental representatives, attended the session both in person and virtually.
According to the minister, a total of 41 toll plazas operating under the department will be digitized in phases. As part of the upgrade, the existing cash collection system will also be improved through an enhanced digital dashboard to ensure better monitoring.
Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth issued strict directives against overcharging, stating that such practices will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He also directed authorities to launch a crackdown against those involved, including registering legal cases where necessary.
The plan also includes the introduction of M-Tag facilities at all toll plazas. This move is expected to improve traffic flow while making toll collection more efficient and transparent.
