Extension of Holidays Proposed for Punjab Educational Institutions

The Punjab government is reviewing a series of measures to address the ongoing energy crisis linked to regional tensions in the Gulf.

Geo News, citing sources, reported that the Punjab Energy Department has submitted recommendations to the provincial government, including a proposal to introduce fuel rationing on the federal model.

The proposals include extending holidays in educational institutions until April 15 and introducing a hybrid learning system in schools. Authorities are also considering a coupon-based or digital system to ensure fair distribution of petrol and diesel, along with limiting fuel supply to vehicles on specific days.

Sources said strict work-from-home directives for private offices and a ban on non-essential events have also been proposed. The recommendations further include expanding metro and bus services to reduce fuel consumption.

Officials are also considering shutting down LED billboards and decorative lighting, operating streetlights in alternate mode after 10 pm, and further restricting market operating hours.
