Detailed Report
Construction work on pedestrian bridges at Kutchery Chowk has officially begun, marking another step forward in one of Rawalpindi’s largest ongoing infrastructure projects. The bridges aim to make it easier and safer for people to cross the busy intersection while keeping traffic moving without interruptions. Officials say the work is expected to be completed within a month.
According to the Punjab Highway Department, the bridges will connect key points around the intersection, including Rashid Minhas Road near the FBR building, Jhelum Road at the district courts gate, Fatima Jinnah University, and the Adiala Road bus stand.
These walkways will also be interconnected so pedestrians can move across the area without stepping onto the main roads.
Kutchery Chowk is one of the city’s most crowded junctions, surrounded by district courts, government offices, and daily commuter routes.
Officials involved in the project say the broader remodelling plan, worth Rs19 billion, is now more than 74% complete. The structures of two flyovers and three underpasses have already been built, while road construction is more than halfway done. Finishing work on the Jinnah Park flyover is also in progress.
Once completed, the project is expected to allow over 250,000 vehicles to pass through the intersection daily without traffic signals. Pedestrians, meanwhile, will rely on the newly constructed bridges for safer movement.
