Detailed Report
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved in principle the establishment of the province’s first skill city, aimed at expanding technical education and improving workforce readiness.
Officials briefed her on a plan to restructure skill development across Punjab by linking training programs with industry requirements and upgrading existing institutions into centres of excellence.
The proposal also includes affiliating the Punjab Technical and Vocational Education Board with institutions in Scotland and the United Kingdom to enhance standards and international recognition.
Separately, authorities presented a framework to introduce technical education at the matric level, allowing students to gain practical skills alongside formal schooling. The program will cover a range of disciplines, including digital skills, industrial trades, tourism, energy systems, hospitality and healthcare-related fields.
The chief minister directed that instructors be recruited on merit and that course content be developed with industry input to ensure it meets market needs. She said the initiative is designed to prepare young people for employment and strengthen the province’s skilled workforce through practical training.
