Beggars Flood Pakistan’s Biggest Industrial City Seeking ‘Eidi’

A big surge in the number of beggars has been observed across Faisalabad during Eid-ul-Fitr, as men, women, and children moved through streets, bazaars, parks, and public areas seeking “Eidi” from festival-goers.

Large groups gathered outside Eidgahs and mosques after prayers, while many elderly and physically challenged individuals positioned themselves at busy chowks, traffic signals, and shopping areas. Some also went door-to-door in residential neighborhoods.

The increase highlights the socioeconomic challenges faced by vulnerable communities and called for organized welfare and rehabilitation programs to reduce reliance on alms.

Despite the rise in begging activities, the city’s festive atmosphere remained vibrant.
