Exodus Gameplay Reveal: BioWare Veterans Showcase Ambitious Sci-Fi RPG

Archetype Entertainment recently dropped the first proper look at Exodus. This upcoming Sci-Fi action-RPG initially caught the industry’s attention at the 2023 Game Awards. The debut trailer stood out instantly. It featured Matthew McConaughey and highlighted Interstellar-like time dilation themes. Now, three months after its last major appearance at the 2025 Game Awards, fans finally have an uninterrupted glimpse of actual gameplay.

The newly released first-look trailer gives fans a direct view of the action. Players take on the role of Jun. You travel across the Omega Centauri cluster to find mysterious ancient relics. These relics reside inside ancient Celestial shrines and hold the power to significantly shift the galaxy’s political climate.

During the trailer, Jun and two companions, Tom and Elise, fight unknown mechanical soldiers. Consequently, Mass Effect fans will recognize the combat style immediately. The game utilizes third-person, cover-based shooter mechanics. Furthermore, players can issue direct commands to their AI companions during intense firefights.

In addition to combat, the trailer showcases a unique traversal system. Players use an item called the “Railclaw”. This grappling hook allows you to zip across environments quickly. You swing from specific points using a highly dynamic physics-based movement system.

Archetype Entertainment boasts serious industry experience. Head of studio James Ohlen previously worked on Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate, Jade Empire, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. He works alongside Drew Karpyshyn and Chad Robertson. Therefore, the team brings an extensive BioWare pedigree to this debut project.

Meanwhile, the Exodus universe is already expanding rapidly. Author Peter F. Hamilton released a prequel novel, Exodus: The Archimedes Engine, back in September 2024. This book details the origin of the Celestials. Subsequently, a sequel titled Exodus: The Helium Sea will launch this June. Moreover, the franchise recently appeared in the 11th episode of Amazon Prime’s Secret Level. This standalone anthology episode followed a mechanic chasing his daughter across the galaxy. It brilliantly showcased the harsh consequences of spaceflight’s time dilation.

Archetype Entertainment currently targets an early 2027 release window for Exodus. However, players will not have to wait a full year for more details. The developers plan to deliver a longer, extended gameplay reveal this summer. This showcase will likely occur during the Summer Game Fest, which begins on June 5, 2026.
