PIA Fined Over Rs. 1 Crore for Delayed Baggage Delivery

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has imposed fines of more than Rs. 10 million on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) over delays in delivering passengers’ baggage after flights arrived, Express News reported, citing official documents.
According to the report, the PAA issued penalty orders against PIA after passengers faced delays in receiving their baggage at airports. The authority ordered the airline to pay the fines by September 25, but PIA did not make the payment by the deadline.
PIA faces a penalty of more than Rs. 7 million at Islamabad Airport, while authorities imposed another fine of Rs. 1.485 million at Lahore Airport.
The airline has also received several warnings over passenger services, while operational issues and delays in ground handling have continued to result in penalties.
PIA officials, however, have blamed the PAA for the baggage delays. GM Traffic Tariq Majeed said inadequate conveyor belts and scanners at Islamabad Airport contribute to delays. He also said simultaneous arrivals of multiple flights create additional problems.
PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan said limitations in the PAA’s operational capacity affect timely baggage delivery. He added that such fines form part of routine procedures and that other airlines also face penalties.
