7-Year-Old Girl Dies After Getting Mauled by a Stray Dog in Hyderabad
A seven-year-old girl has died weeks after a stray dog severely mauled her on the head in Hyderabad’s Kohsar area, marking the second child death linked to dog bites in the city this year.
Abeeha, daughter of Nauman Qureshi, was attacked on September 5 near Lal Quarters, close to the airport, while returning home with her father after attending a Quran lesson.
The dog inflicted deep wounds to her head, leaving her in critical condition. She was initially taken to Kohsar Hospital and later shifted to Civil Hospital, where she underwent surgery.
According to Jamaat-e-Islami Kohsar Zone office-bearer Abdul Qayyum Rajput, the injuries were so severe that a dog tooth was reportedly lodged in the child’s skull.
He said Abeeha received the prescribed vaccination and continued taking medication before developing a fever. She later died at home while undergoing treatment.
The death follows that of six-year-old Muhammad Rayan, who was bitten by a stray dog in Latifabad on July 5. He initially recovered after completing vaccination but later developed symptoms associated with rabies and died on July 31.
The two deaths have renewed concerns among Hyderabad residents over the growing number of stray dogs and the presence of packs in residential areas.
